SSG Services Welcomes Universal to Bedfordshire: A Once-in-a-Generation Opportunity for Growth, Skills and Community Impact
At SSG Services, we’ve proudly called Bedford home for over 22 years. From day one, our mission has been simple yet powerful: to help people reach their potential by being active and developing skills. That mission has guided everything we do — from delivering high-quality gymnastics, swimming, and sports programs for children, young people and adults, to leading transformative adult education and employment courses that prepare individuals for meaningful careers.
So when we heard the news that Universal Destinations & Experiences would be building Europe’s biggest theme park right here in Bedfordshire, we were thrilled — not just because of the headlines, but because we immediately saw the incredible potential it brings to our region, our people, and our shared future.
Universal’s multi-billion-pound investment will create around 28,000 jobs and inject nearly £50 billion into the UK economy by 2055. For a community-focused organisation like ours, that means real opportunities to amplify our impact — helping local people, especially young people, build the skills and confidence they need to step into these new roles.
Whether it’s training a young activity leader in teamwork and communication, delivering digital skills and employability courses to adults re-entering the workforce, or preparing learners for careers in hospitality, customer service, or education — our programs are already aligned with the kinds of opportunities Universal will bring.
We are also proud to play an active role on the Experience Bedfordshire Local Tourism Board, working alongside local authorities and partners to ensure a clear and effective skills plan is in place. Together, we’re committed to making sure the arrival of Universal is a true community success story.
