SSG Activities Blog – June 2021

We had such a busy Easter here at SSG, delivering fun activities to hundreds of children across the region. Our enthusiastic staffing team moved around various venues over the Easter holidays. Here’s a few highlights for you…

The second half of the summer term has been our busiest ever as a department! We have been loving visiting so many schools, delivering fantastic activity days & meeting lots of wonderful people. See next month’s blog for a full rundown on what we’ve been up to. In the meantime, here are some highlights from what we’ve been up to at the weekends…

Inclusion Football

We are delighted to have been able to offer 30 fully funded spaces to children in the local community to access 5 weeks of free football sessions within our SSG Celestials Football Academy. We opened up spaces in our Inclusion Football classes which are designed for boys and girls that would like to play football in a friendly, non-competitive environment with like-minded peers. We also offered spaces in our Girls’ Football sessions, specifically designed for girls aged 7-10 years who would love to play football in a girl gang. Many children completed the 5 weeks and have now chosen to join us on a weekly basis which is fantastic!

Fun 4 All

Our Saturday morning SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities) activity programme has a new Project Lead, Julie Jacobs.

We are so happy to have recruited Julie as she brings so much enthusiasm to the role & has a real passion for it. As she says, “It’s FUN 4 ALL – that’s children & staff included!” And fun is certainly what we have been having!

Each session is based around the ‘theme of the week’, such as Superheroes, Flowers & Healthy Living. It includes messy play, storytime, inflatables fun, time in the sensory room & garden area with optional free play, time in the quiet room & organised games.

We have a team of regular staff members to ensure consistency for the children attending & families can attend for a 12 week block. There are many children who have been with us for years but we are also always happy to welcome new faces onto our programme.

Gymnastics

Our Saturday morning gymnastics sessions have been popular for some time now so we launched a Sunday time slot after the last lockdown to help keep up with demand. On Sundays we run sessions for 3-5 & 6-9 year olds, centred around having fun, using our specialised equipment & learning new skills. We are so pleased that these sessions have been just as popular & we are now nearly full on a Sunday as well! Our team love seeing all the happy faces & take a lot of pride in seeing children performing a skill for the first time.

RESTART: Parties!!

We have begun welcoming children back for birthday celebrations, end of season events & general family/friend catch ups with our fun, active parties. Running on a slightly modified model because of ongoing restrictions, we have had groups enjoying an hour and a half on our Ultimate Inflatables (for older children) & our Inflatable Fun (for younger children) Parties. It’s the perfect opportunity to meet up with friends, burn some energy & have some fun!

MEET THE TEAM

Every month we introduce you to a member of our team. This month it’s Julie!

Julie Jacobs

How long you’ve worked for SSG:

6 Months

Favourite part about working for SSG:

Watching children of different ages and abilities being able to access various activities and programmes. I also enjoy being able to send my children along to the provisions ran by SSG – they always have an amazing time!

Something interesting about yourself:

I change my hair colour on a regular basis!

Looking Forward…

We are finalising our plans for this year’s summer holiday programme & bookings are flying in so don’t delay if you want to secure places!

In next month’s blog we’ll be telling you all about the amazing activity days we’ve been running in schools all around the county & beyond… best summer term ever?!
