Who We Support

At SSG, we welcome students from all backgrounds and experiences. You might be:

  • A young person with SEND or additional support needs (formally diagnosed or not) who needs the right environment to thrive
  • Someone who didn’t quite meet the entry requirements for a sector-specific course and needs space to grow and build confidence
  • A student with a passion for sport and leadership, looking to build practical skills for a career—or for life

A College That Cares

We do things differently here. Our college is built around relationships, wellbeing, and real learning. Students aren’t just a number—you’ll be seen, supported and celebrated.

Our College & Facilities

SSG operates from Raleigh House in Bedford, a calm and welcoming campus designed with students in mind. You’ll have access to:

  • A relaxed Hub Café
  • Flexible classrooms and quiet spaces
  • An on-site gym and fitness studio
  • Off-site sports training at the Bunyan Centre and Bedford International Athletics Stadium
  • Free use of laptops, resources and uniform where needed

What You Can Study

We offer two main pathways designed to suit your interests, strengths, and ambitions:

Sports Leadership & Coaching Pathway (Level 3)

For students interested in sport, coaching or fitness—or anyone wanting to develop leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications include:
  • NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Sport & Physical Activity (Year 1)
  • NCFE Level 3 Diploma (Year 2)

Gateway Pathway (Level 1 & 2)

For students who are unsure about their next step or need more time to build life, work, and social skills.

Qualifications include:
  • Pearson Level 1 Personal Growth & Wellbeing
  • Pearson Level 2 Teamwork & Personal Development

360° Skills Curriculum

Life and career skills built into every week:

  • Tutorials, enrichment and mentoring
  • Careers and employability support
  • Sector-specific workshops and tasters

Work Experience

In 2025/26 we’re launching a Specialist Supported Work Experience Programme, giving all students hands-on, meaningful placements through:

  • Our community-led sports & activities provision
  • Personalised placements in other sectors, where suitable
  • Full support to build CVs, prepare for roles, and develop confidence

English & Maths

We offer:

  • GCSE resits
  • Functional Skills (Entry – Level 2) All taught in a practical, confidence-building way.

Working With Families & Professionals

We work closely with:

  • Parents and carers
  • Local Authorities and EHCP teams
  • Schools and other professionals

From EHCP consultation to post-18 transitions, we’re committed to joined-up support and positive progression outcomes for every learner.
