SSG Education & Training Blog – Feb 2021

Welcome to our new look blog. For a while now we have produced a newsletter celebrating our successes & providing a small highlight of what we’ve been doing. Having taken on feedback, this will now be in the form of a blog on the website which hopefully means it will reach a wider audience.

Distance learning

During this third national lockdown we have continued to deliver high quality programmes to dozens of students via our digital learning platforms. Candidates have been able to access all the usual sessions with tutors, as well as receiving all the support they need to continue on their individual paths to achieve their targets & goals.

For those students without ICT access, our managers & tutors have delivered workbooks & printouts, collected completed work, provided personal coaching via telephone calls & worked tirelessly to ensure everybody stays on track, even if we can’t run our programmes in person.

Well done to all our staff who have gone above & beyond to keep things running & well done to the students who have worked hard to stay motivated & engaged & keep progressing during these challenging times.

SWAP

We are very excited about the success of our Sector based Work Academy Programmes (SWAP) so far. These 3 week long programmes are planned in partnership with employers with specific roles in mind. We have had some very positive feedback & some candidates have already gone on to have successful interviews as a direct result of their participation on the course.

CV Workshops

As part of our CPD provision, we now offer a workshop focused on writing CVs. These are aimed at individuals who regularly support people to update their CVs & offer advice on the most effective way to present themselves to potential employers. Our first workshop was delivered for current DWP staff & was extremely well received. We can run this for anybody involved in career advice: school, colleges, support workers & look forward to doing more work in this area.

Staff Wellbeing session

The wellbeing of our staff is always of utmost importance at SSG. Happy staff = great work! As part of our provision, we have teamed up with Bedfordshire Wellbeing Service, offering online workshops led by NHS staff, aiming to support and promote better psychological wellbeing in both the personal and the work life. We had such a good turnout & some very positive feedback. We would love to roll some of these ideas out to our candidates too in the future.

MEET THE TEAM

Every month we’ll be introducing you to a member of our team. This month we talked to Mike.

Mike Sheldon

Job Role:

Tutor in Area 2 (Hertfordshire & Luton)

How long you’ve worked for SSG:

1 year!

Favourite part about working for SSG:

Seeing students develop in both classroom and online. Seeing them initially feel nervous and on edge to even attend a class and in the end progress to achieve their goals. A recent student on my Hospitality course was so nervous about interviews and couldn’t cope with the idea of being questioned. The online group and individual online workshops gave her the confidence to be successful in a recent job interview. I just love to get out of bed helping people and enjoy their lives and achieve their goals.

Looking Forward…
